BUDDIES LEARNING STYLE

On 30th March 2015, we were required to form a group to discuss our learning styles. My group consists of six people. Two from group 1, three from group 4 and one from group 3.

From left : Ghaythree, Simran, Tuarshinni, Agnes, Amirah, Shaila and Megan
Based on the VAK Learning Style Assessment, I, Amirah Haziqah binti Zamani from group 1, am a Visual learner. I find that this is a very accurate result. When studying, I like to make my notes colorful using different colored pens and markers especially to emphasize on the keywords. Sometimes, I would also take the time to draw small simple diagrams to enable to visualize. This would help me to remember something much more easily. I would also need to listen carefully to the instructions and explanations in order to understand something in depth. However, I am not the only visual learner in my group. These learning techniques are also found useful by Ghaythree, Simran, Agnes and Tuarshinni.

Whereas Megan on the other hand is an Auditory learner. She prefers learning something new by listening to her lecturers and repeating back those words to herself. She could easily remember facts when she hums it in a musical tone. Before exams, Megan would make flashcards for various subjects and use them to do last minute revision, reading the words out loud. Megan would also actively partcipate in group discussions and is not shy to speak up her ideas. Shaila herself is a Kinesthetic learner. Shaila remembers best through getting physically involved in whatever is being learned. She loves to do experiments in the laboratory where she can do something first-hand and at the same time continue to learn something new. She prefers getting her hands dirty rather than just reading books and listening to instructions. Shaila admits that she takes frequent breaks when studying as sometimes she has difficulty in sitting still for extended periods of time.

Everyone has their own way of learning. Some people can be an Auditory and Visual learner at the same time or maybe any other combinations. The recipe for success differs for every individual and that is what makes everyone so unique.
